The first ever e-Rozgaar center launch took place on the 19th of May at the University of Gujrat. Chief Guest, Chairman PITB Dr. Umar Saif inaugurated the opening and was welcomed by the Vice Chancellor University of Gujrat Dr. Zia-Ul-Qayyum. The event was also attended by Director General E-Governance Sajid Latif, Director Entrepreneurship Nabeel Qadeer, Senior Program Manager Mehak Jamal, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali Randhawa DCO, Sohail Zafar Chattha, DPO and Haider Miraj, Director, Business Incubation Center.
The event started at 11 am with Dr. Umar Saif cutting the ribbon to formally launch e-Rozgaar center at University of Gujrat. He then proceeded to the auditorium where he was welcomed by a hall full of students and faculty from the University of Gujrat.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Zia-Ul-Qayyum expressed his gratitude towards the program for choosing his university as the first center in Punjab. He also promised to outdo every other center in the province and produce the finest freelancers Pakistan has ever seen. He then welcomed Dr. Umar Saif to speak to the students. Dr. Umar Saif very proudly announced that out of the 600+ applications from Gujrat, 260 were selected out of which 159 were from University of Gujrat. The three main course tracks, namely technical, non-technical and creative design aim at creating self-sustainable freelancers in Punjab.
The e-Rozgaar program is a joint project of Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Youth Affairs, Sports, Archeology & Tourism. The scheme is to empower the youth through freelancing and earning online.
In the first phase 10,000 candidates will be trained in three different batches in one year. 40 training centers are being established in 36 districts of Punjab. Out of which, five centers are dedicated for female candidates.
Pakistan being the World’s 6th largest country, having the best faculties and remarkable resources, better than many institutions around the globe, possesses excellent youth potential to move forward and to grab the economic opportunities through freelancing under the Chief Minister Punjab’s e-Rozgaar program. Dr. Umar Saif founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University, Chairman, Punjab Information Technology Board and the Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab said during the launching of first ever e-Rozgaar Center at University of Gujrat today.
Dr. Umar Saif recounted his university days and quoted examples of leading entrepreneurs in the world to serve as motivation for the youth attending the launch and claimed that ‘e-Rozgaar Program will be a herald of change for competent students looking to monetize their skills’.
PITB received an enthusiastic response by registering 33105 applications from the young graduates. The application data reveals that 16 Ph.D., 1794 MPhil, 15574 Masters, 15143 graduates and 578 B.Tech (Honors) applied for this program.
He said that the program would empower the youth to create jobs for themselves in technical, non-technical and creative areas rather than to seek for it. In freelancing Pakistan stood third among the World community by earning US $ one billion, which would increase to the tune of US $ 360 million through the earning of US $ 100 per day per person by the 10,000 trainees selected for three months program for freelance self-employment at 40 training centers by high profile trainers. Among these centers five centers dedicated for female candidates. These Centers are being established in eleven (11) universities of the Punjab. The training will enable the youth to generate income approximately from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 80,000 per month while working from home.
He added that the program would take forward the economy of Pakistan by gearing up self-employment as in the given circumstances we produce 250,000 graduates annually while only 50,000 job opportunities were not enough to meet the requirement. The opportunity of entrepreneurship through technology startups was moving forward speedily, he said.
Dr. Saif appreciated the interest of the VC UoG Prof. Dr. Ziaul Qayyum for establishing the state of the art Center without waiting for financial assistance from the government.
Applications were received from Attock, Bhawalnagar, Bhakkar, Chiniot, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jhang Jhelum, Kasur, Khanewal, Khushab, Layyah, Lodhran, Mandi Bhauddin, Mianwali, Muzzaffargarh, Nankana Sahib, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Rajanpur, Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Toba Tek Singh and Vehari.
Dr. Umar Saif concluded the evening by quoting his favorite poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz’s poem ‘dhuaan’, “Jinki qadmon ko kisi rah ka sahara bhi nahi,unki nazro’n pe koi rah ujagar kar de”.
Director Business Incubation Center Haider Miraj promised to provide the best of the best facilities to the freelancers at the eRozgaar Centers and also gave them a green card into the Business Incubation Center whenever they’d like.
The Vice Chancellor then handed tokens of gratitude to all the guests and Dr. Umar Saif handed a token of appreciation to the Vice Chancellor. The event ended on an energetic note as all the guests posed for a picture after making rounds of the Language Center and the Business Incubation Center before proceeding for lunch.
