Startup Oman, the sultanate’s only platform created by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs and the ‘home of entrepreneurship’ in Oman, hosted the March edition of Caribou Chats on March 8.
Caribou Chats is an educational programme designed specifically for Oman’s startup community. It aims to fully promote the entrepreneurial lifestyle, with all of its daily hurdles and learnings.
Speaking on the Startup Oman stage was Khalid al Mahrouqi, who is the managing director & founder of Resolution Engineering. He has 17 years of experience in architecture, master planning, project management and real estate development management.
After working in the Royal Court Affairs followed by Mourya Tourism Development & Atkins, Mahrouqi established an independent consultancy firm. He is also serving as chairman of Oman Centre of Architects.
Joining Mahrouqi was Fahad al Ismaili. Ismaili is the founder & CEO of Tibiaan properties. He has over 15 years of experience in various real estate areas. He also worked as property manager of the US Department of State in the American Embassy – Muscat, and currently is a board member at the Oman Real Estate Association.
In the event, Mahrouqi highlighted his learnings throughout his career, which included lessons on leadership. He said, “My leadership style has evolved over the years. Now, I value delegation and creating personal ownership over the work we deliver. I’ve also developed my design style with the various private and public experiences I’ve had.”
On the other hand, Ismaili said, “I’ve learned through my experience how important having the right people is. I’ve worked with an HR consultant to develop a hiring strategy for my firm, which created a big difference in our performance. Other lessons I’ve learned were the importance of documenting everything and focusing our product offering to what’s unique to our company.”
“Having both Mahrouqi and Ismaili as speakers provided immense value to our programme. Caribou Chats is designed to showcase successful local entrepreneurs, and we’re very pleased to have hosted them this month,” said Ali Daud, co-founder of Startup Oman.
The event is organised by Startup Oman in partnership with Caribou Coffee. The next Caribou Chats will be on April 12 at 6.30pm at Caribou Cafe in
Bareeq al Shatti. Coffee and nibbles will be provided, courtesy Caribou Coffee. Registration is required at mymujtama.startupoman.om.
