Abu Dhabi Unveils Fahid Island – UAE’s First Wellness-Focused Island Community: In a bold move that redefines luxury living and sustainable urban development, Aldar has unveiled Fahid Island, the UAE’s first island community designed entirely around well-being. Positioned between the iconic Yas Island and Saadiyat Island, the AED 40 billion master-planned development promises to combine pristine beaches, lush mangrove forests, world-class residences, and environmentally conscious infrastructure into one of the region’s most ambitious lifestyle destinations.

Spread across approximately 2.7 million square metres with an 11-kilometre coastline, Fahid Island has been planned so that every home is within a five-minute walk of the sea. The development features over 940,000 square metres of green space, a 2-kilometre waterfront promenade, 15 kilometres of pedestrian pathways, dedicated cycling routes, and a 10-kilometre wellness corridor known as Berm Park, encouraging residents to embrace walking, cycling, and outdoor recreation as part of everyday life. Natural mangrove forests surrounding the island help improve air quality while preserving Abu Dhabi’s unique coastal ecosystem.

Unlike conventional waterfront developments that prioritise luxury alone, Fahid Island has been conceived with health and sustainability at its core. The island has become the world’s first Fitwel-certified island, while also securing LEED for Cities and Communities Platinum pre-certification and targeting Abu Dhabi’s prestigious Estidama 3-Pearl sustainability rating. Eco-friendly mobility solutions, shaded walkways, energy-efficient design, and reduced carbon emissions are central to the masterplan, reflecting a growing global emphasis on healthier and more sustainable communities.

The residential offering will include more than 6,000 premium homes ranging from beachfront apartments and townhouses to ultra-luxury villas. Internationally acclaimed architects, including Kengo Kuma, Koichi Takada, ACME, and NAGA Architects, have been commissioned to create distinctive residential neighbourhoods that blend seamlessly with the island’s natural landscape. The first phase, Fahid Beach Residences, introduces an exclusive collection of low-rise beachfront buildings designed to maximise privacy, panoramic sea views, and wellness-focused living.

Beyond residential living, Fahid Island aims to become a complete lifestyle destination. Plans include boutique retail districts, waterfront dining, wellness retreats, five-star hospitality, art galleries, cafés, fitness facilities, and water sports such as paddleboarding and kite surfing. Families will also benefit from an international education campus, with King’s College School Wimbledon set to establish its first regional campus on the island, further enhancing its appeal as a premium residential community.

Industry observers view Fahid Island as another milestone in Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision of creating globally competitive, sustainable communities. As wellness increasingly becomes a defining factor in real estate investment and urban planning, the project positions the emirate at the forefront of healthy city development. With its combination of environmental stewardship, premium lifestyle amenities, and world-class design, Fahid Island is expected to attract residents, international investors, and visitors seeking a new benchmark for waterfront living in the Middle East.
