Launched: Pune Ideas Festival to Strengthen India–GCC–Africa Innovation, Trade and Investment Partnerships: Indian-American entrepreneur, global media professional, and ecosystem builder Dr. Tausif Malik has announced the launch of the Pune Ideas Festival (PIF), India’s first dedicated Ideas Festival, with a bold vision to position Pune as a global hub for ideas, innovation, entrepreneurship, investment, education, technology, sustainability, healthcare, public policy, and international collaboration.
Scheduled for February 2027, the three-day festival will bring together between 3,000 and 5,000 delegates, including global thought leaders, entrepreneurs, startup founders, investors, policymakers, academics, researchers, corporate executives, media professionals, creators, and changemakers from India, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Africa, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, and other regions.
The inaugural edition aims to establish a world-class platform where ideas inspire action, innovation drives economic growth, and international partnerships create lasting impact.
A Bridge Connecting India, the GCC and Africa
The launch comes at a pivotal moment as India strengthens its strategic economic, technological, and diplomatic partnerships with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Africa, two of the world’s fastest-growing regions.
Together, India, the GCC, and Africa represent a combined population of more than 2.3 billion people, creating enormous opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, artificial intelligence, healthcare, education, manufacturing, sustainability, digital transformation, logistics, renewable energy, and entrepreneurship.
Organizers believe the Pune Ideas Festival will become a catalyst for connecting governments, universities, corporations, startups, investors, and innovators across these regions.
Why Pune?
Often called India’s Oxford of the East, Pune has long been recognized as one of the country’s leading centers for higher education, research, manufacturing, automotive engineering, information technology, biotechnology, defence, and innovation.
Home to hundreds of educational institutions, globally recognized universities, multinational companies, research laboratories, startups, and industrial clusters, Pune provides an ideal environment for a multidisciplinary ideas festival.
Speaking on the launch, Dr. Tausif Malik, Founder of Pune Ideas Festival and Founder Director of TMA Worldwide, said:
“The world’s greatest breakthroughs begin with ideas. Every innovation, startup, scientific discovery, social movement, and transformative change started as an idea. Pune Ideas Festival is designed to bring together bold thinkers and visionary leaders who are shaping the future. Our goal is to create a platform where ideas become action, collaborations become opportunities, and innovation creates impact.”
He added:
“India, the GCC, and Africa are entering a new era of cooperation driven by innovation, technology, entrepreneurship, education, and investment. Pune Ideas Festival will serve as a bridge connecting governments, businesses, universities, investors, startups, and young leaders to create meaningful partnerships that benefit all three regions.”
India, GCC and Africa: A Powerful Economic Partnership
The festival’s vision is closely aligned with the rapidly expanding economic relationship between India, the GCC, and Africa.
The GCC has become India’s largest regional trading partner, with bilateral merchandise trade reaching approximately US$162 billion during FY 2023-24, accounting for nearly 15 percent of India’s total merchandise trade.
The United Arab Emirates ranks among India’s largest trading partners and is a major destination for Indian exports, while Saudi Arabia continues to play a critical role in India’s energy security and is expanding investments across infrastructure, renewable energy, logistics, digital technologies, and manufacturing.
GCC sovereign wealth funds have collectively invested tens of billions of dollars in India’s infrastructure, technology, healthcare, logistics, clean energy, real estate, and startup ecosystem.
India’s partnership with Africa has also witnessed remarkable growth.
India–Africa bilateral trade exceeded US$100 billion in 2023-24, making India one of Africa’s largest trading partners.
More than 200 Indian companies have invested over US$75 billion across Africa, spanning sectors such as telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, agriculture, automotive manufacturing, mining, information technology, financial services, renewable energy, education, and infrastructure.
These investments have created employment, strengthened local industries, and contributed to sustainable economic development across the continent.
Organizers believe the Pune Ideas Festival can help accelerate these partnerships by creating a platform where governments, investors, universities, corporations, startups, incubators, accelerators, and policymakers explore new business opportunities, technology partnerships, joint ventures, and research collaborations.
